Originally from the Chicago area, Taucher attended The Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago, quickly establishing himself as a creative force in the city’s Off-Loop theater community during the 1970s. His early work in theater design contributed to a number of prominent theaters, including Body Politic, St. Nicholas, the Organic Theater Company, the Goodman, and Victory Gardens.
After completing his education, Taucher wasted no time immersing himself in the world of set design, helping shape the aesthetic of Chicago’s dynamic and experimental theater scene. His innovative approach and commitment to the craft were evident in the productions he worked on, setting the stage for a career that would span theater, television, and film production design.
In 1979, Taucher relocated to New York City, where his membership in the United Scenic Artists Local 829 opened doors to Broadway’s biggest productions.
